Join the conversation: Reversing inequities in the energy and climate space
Written by Kate Heller.
In case you are looking for a racial justice training applied to energy and climate work, I want to share my experience with Common Spark’s Energy (in)Equity Training. Our fall session just opened for September 21-22, 2023!
I first encountered Energy (in)Equity in December of 2022 when the Common Spark team shared their excitement and, naturally, their humble nervousness about an early draft of the training. Since that first encounter I I had a hunch that Energy (in)Equity would shake ground in the energy industry.
There are a lot of amazing trainings that teach how to identify injustice and how it came to be, as well as approaches to counter it.
What sets Energy (in)Equity apart is elevating our individual role in the energy and climate space to undo these injustices. This training moves its participants from learning foundational concepts to concrete actions. Energy (in)Equity enables a space to dissect real-world issues and then brainstorm applicable equity-centered actions in our day-to-day work.
It can be uncomfortable to dig into some of these topics with people you’ve never met. What's special about Energy (in)Equity is Common Spark's ethos of compassion and play that can transform a seemingly intimidating space into one that's welcoming and generative. It's a space where participants can feel comfortable asking questions, raising concerns, and providing their own insights.
As I continue to co-facilitate Energy (in)Equity, I'm continually proud that this training creates a community where everyone is able to bring something to our collective learning and growth. I am grateful for and impressed by the knowledge and motivation in the room.
Curious to be part of the conversation? Come hang out with us, September 21-22, 2023!
Common Spark Consulting not only works externally with our clients and partners, but we also strive to work inwardly, recognizing that we must internalize the care, thoughtfulness, and intention we hope to represent as individuals and an organization. The Thought Library is where we share our ideas and thoughts, where we are at right now, on topics and issues that we hope will spark conversation for a brighter, more inclusive energy future.
